BARNSLEY: We will come good, declares upbeat Davey
Barnsley boss Simon Davey is refusing to panic despite the club's poor start to the campaign.
The Tykes have struggled so far for form in the league and their stuttering opening to the season was compounded with a Carling Cup exit at Crewe, a defeat labelled by Davey as "a disaster".
Remaining upbeat, however, the Barnsley boss has seen plenty so far to suggest that it won't take long to turn things around.
"You have to look at the positives and our performances have been good," he said.
"We had a lack of concentration in one or two areas this season that have cost us in all of the games."
"We have to iron these lapses out.
"We are a better team this season and someone will be on the end of a hammering soon.
"It is not down to one individual for it is a team effort from the manager right down to every player.
"We have been punished for every mistake so we have to roll with that and make sure we put it right.
"We have to keep playing in the same way and I am sure the results will come."
Despite suffering with a spate of absentees so far, Davey is happy with the balance of his squad following the addition of Gary Teale and said that he won't be delving into the transfer market again before the transfer window closes.
"There is no need to go into the market before the deadline," he said.
"By the middle of September we will have Heinz (Miller), Anderson (de Silva) and Jamal (Campbell-Ryce) back in the squad and we will be a lot more competitive.
"We do not need to bring anyone else in."
The reserves suffered disappointment in their season opener at Hartlepool United in midweek as a young side crashed 4-0.
The game was notable, however, for the inclusion of 15-year-old midfielder Rueben Lazarus, who made his first start in the defeat and who came closest to scoring with a shot that came back off the upright.
Meanwhile, there was more frustration this week for Hugo Colace as his international clearance has still not be granted to allow him to make his debut for the Tykes.
The 24-year-old, signed from Newell's Old Boys in the summer and despite an initial FIFA-imposed deadline of last Thursday for the Argentinian side to comply with their request to release paperwork, has once again been left kicking his heels as the dispute rumbles on.
Davey sympathised with him, saying: "Hugo is distraught at the moment because he came in early and has trained all summer to be fit and ready for the start of the season.
"He is incredibly frustrated, but we have to just keep him fit and ready."
