Ace Roundhay karter speeds to success

Ace Roundhay karter James Kellett belied his tender years to speed to victory at the prestigious W Plate Championship – on a memorable weekend for the youngster.

Pontefract-based Raceway Karting member Kellett – just 10, who only started karting 16 months ago – reigned supreme at the championship, held at South Yorkshire Kart Club in memory of Brian Wilson, father of six-times world champion Mike Wilson.

Kellett blitzed all-comers in the Comer Cadet class for children between the ages of eight and 13 – winning his three heats in scintillating fashion to claim pole position for the final –which he also won.

The speedster also claimed fastest lap in every race, while claiming the prestigious driver of the dayaward which is given to the most outstanding driver of the whole event, which featured 200 drivers of all ages.

Mum Julie said: "James has only been karting for 16 months with his dad first taking him indoor karting on a wet Sunday afternoon.

"James is a natural and has taken to the sport straight away."
