Nine league wins in succession had fans raving about York – the Minstermen were the bee's knees and manager Martin Foyle was the business.
Two months later, a minority are calling for the manager's head.
But that doesn't bother Foyle who feels he will very soon have any fickle fan back on his side.
York approached yesterday's clash at Altrincham without a win in six and following four losses in succession – form that shunted the Minstermen out of the Blue Square Premier play-offs.
But even with a game in hand, there have still been voices of discontent on fans' forums this week, questioning how "it all went wrong".

And it has been a slump that in some quarters has caused alarm bells to sound.

"It's water off a duck's back, we have been in the game long enough and we cannot get involved because we've got to keep the club on an even keel and the spirits high.
"We knew that we were in the play-offs on merit, but we knew we were going to have a sticky patch – no way does anybody go through a season without having a sticky patch.
"It was due but we are making mistakes rather than teams doing a good bit of play.
"However, against Salisbury, I thought they scored a fantastic first goal against us.
"It gave them a lifeline when they didn't look like scoring and at the moment we are not getting the rub of the green."
Foyle has no doubts whatsoever that City's slide can be arrested, the York boss insisting that recent performances have not got the results they deserve.
There is no panic from the Bootham Crescent dugout and the manager is loath to use injuries to the likes of Alex Lawless and Dave McGurk as an excuse.
"People think you are looking for excuses," said Foyle. "But it was a blow with Alex Lawless as he is one of our better players.
"Now Chris Carruthers has gone over on his ankle on our pitch – all these things just seem to go against us.
"But the performances haven't been that bad, we've just had a few individual mistakes, but, overall, the players have put the effort in.
"If we keep doing that then hopefully we'll be okay.
"We all want the best – the same as the supporters and everybody involved with the club.
"We got ourselves in a great position and the fixtures were there for us, but we seem to have found it harder against teams who are fighting for their lives than those at the top."
Following on from that synopsis, Foyle, therefore, has few qualms with the fact that City's next two clashes are against fellow play-off chasers Mansfield and AFC Wimbledon.
York's run-in features a mixed bag – fixtures against fellow Football League hopefuls but also clashes with basement battlers including two against Grays.
Foyle is happy with the overall balance of whom the Minstermen are yet to face.
"It's the old cliche of one game at a time, but I am pleased that we are playing Mansfield and AFC Wimbledon in the next week –– two top 10 sides," said Foyle. "It gives us a chance.
"The ball's firmly in our court at the moment."
And the doubters? Foyle has a simple plan for them.
He said: "They will soon come back onside when we win a couple of games."
