Boss Brian McClennan has declared himself delighted with Leeds Rhinos' start to pre-season training.
Rhinos' non-international players returned on Wednesday, just 46 days after their Grand Final triumph over St Helens.

The opening few days have mainly been devoted to fitness testing, but Leeds' players have also been taking part in punishing runs on the hills at Roundhay Park.

"The guys have come back pretty well," said McClennan, who will be without players involved in the World Cup until the first week in January.

"We will hopefully get more running in in a couple of weeks' time and we will sit down with the players and set some targets for them.

"It is good to have them back. They are a great bunch of lads and they will get stuck in and work really hard, to give themselves every chance of playing well next season."

The RFL has confirmed Rhinos will be at home in their opening game of the new Super League season, on Friday, February 6.

The full fixture list is due to be published on Monday.

McClennan added: "From the testing we have done so far, we are pretty happy with where we are at this stage.

"They needed rest and it was good to see that they've had that, but they got stuck into the hills yesterday.

"That is difficult, it is tough, but they rolled their sleeves up and got stuck in.

"They really are a good bunch, we are pleased with them and we know they will work hard over the next couple of months.

"They push each other and we are really confident we will turn up well for our first game on February 6."

Meanwhile, Rhinos commercial director Rob Oates has hailed the club's latest honour as a massive boost.

Leeds Rugby were named commercial department of the year at the first Rugby Business Awards and Oates said: "It's a big honour.

"We are a family club and we are very, very close-knit on and off the field. The Rhinos team have gone great on the field and it's nice to be recognised for our efforts off it."
