Leeds Rhinos' Aussie winger Scott Donald is hoping the heat stays on for the rest of this season.
Engage Super League's joint-top try scorer believes warm conditions and firm pitches over the second half of the campaign will suit Rhinos' expansive style of play.

Rhinos have made light of the difficult playing conditions which dominated the opening three months of the season, but Donald believes the arrival of summer will give the defending champions a new edge.

"We've got a lot of attacking flair in the side and we like to throw the ball around," said Donald, who has touched down 16 times in all competitions this year.

"We're not a team that puts it under the wing and goes forward, we like to chance our arm.

"Hopefully it's exciting for the spectators. They come down to see a good game of football and we're hoping we'll be able to do that on the dry pitches.

"We aren't the biggest pack at the moment, but we have got a lot of guys who work hard.

"The warmer conditions, hopefully, are going to help us in the weeks ahead to come against some of the bigger sides.

"We're just going to keep working hard and hopefully the results will come for us."

Rhinos' Carnegie Challenge Cup win over Harlequins three days ago was played in 80 degree heat, after three months of cold, gale-force winds and driving rain.

"I definitely prefer it like it was on Sunday," said the former Manly ace. "I quite enjoy those conditions, I don't know about some of the big guys.

"It is definitely a lot easier to run and the skill level goes up a lot more in the dry conditions. Hopefully, it's better for everybody."

Despite some long-term injury problems, Leeds will go into Friday's visit of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats with a five-point advantage at the top of the Super League table and Donald said the players are "extremely happy" with the way things are going.

"The young guys who've come in for us have done an enormous job," he said. "We can't fault any single one of them.
