Leeds United: Becks named League One player of the year

Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford was last night named League One's player of the year for the second time in three seasons.
The 26-year-old forward regained a prize he first won in 2008 at the Football League's annual awards ceremony in London.

Beckford's 27 goals this season have helped Leeds to the verge of automatic promotion from League One, and he claimed the player of the year award ahead of Norwich City's Wes Hoolahan and Southampton's Rickie Lambert.

United manager Simon Grayson was present in London to collect the award on Beckford's behalf.

Leeds defender Aidan White, meanwhile, missed out on the Football League's apprentice of the year award to Norwich midfielder Tom Adeyemi.
