LEEDS UNITED: Mac: Gongs don't interest me

Unperturbed Gary McAllister has shrugged aside his League One manager of the month award snub – and insists all he is bothered about is achieving the ultimate prize of promotion.
Leeds United, seeking a magnificent seventh successive win in their first-ever league encounter at Peterborough United tomorrow, could move to the summit for a few hours at least if they win – provided Oldham fail to beat Stockport tonight.
Whites boss McAllister, who was overlooked for the monthly gong which went to Millwall's Kenny Jackett instead, insists victory in the high-noon shootout would represent ample compensation.
And he is adamant that the only prizes he is interested in are those dished out in the spring.
McAllister said: "To be perfectly honest, it's not about monthly awards. I've come here to do a job – and the job for everybody at this club is to try and win promotion. These (awards) are little offshoots of the season, they're not high up on the list of my priorities.
"It's nice to be nominated, but what we're looking to achieve here is to get out of the division and not get manager of the month awards.
"But, I've got to say, September has been excellent and if we can repeat that in October I'd be very pleased.
"We're looking very solid at the back and looking good going forward.
We're scoring goals, there's a nice spread of goals coming through the team and our two mainline strikers are getting goals. So it was an excellent month and we've produced some good football as well, which is pleasing."
A sell-out crowd of 13,500 – slightly lowered due to segregation issues – will greet the Whites when they run out at London Road, where they will be roared on by a whopping 4,200 visiting fans.
And McAllister is confident the 'White Army' contingent would have been many more, if the tickets had been on offer.
He added: "The numbers are testimony to our fans. I'm biased of course, but they are second to none as far as I'm concerned. They've been excellent since the day I arrived and I'm sure if there were more tickets available, there would be more Leeds fans going to Peterborough.
"We welcome their support and they can pat themselves on the back.
"And for us, it's very much a case of keeping our run going."
