Freeman in mix-up as GB drop medal chance

Britain's 4x100m women's relay team had only themselves to blame for blowing the chance of a medal as they and hot favourites Jamaica failed to finish in the final.
Both teams made a mess of the second changeover, Montell Douglas failing to get the baton to Wakefield's Emily Freeman and Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart doing the same for the Jamaicans in the lane inside. That left the Russian quartet clear to take gold ahead of Belgium and Nigeria.
Douglas said: "I called 'hand' to Emily and our timing was out, the Jamaicans were going out and we were all so close together and I've never seen anything like it.
"We were clashing and colliding – I felt like we were all bashing each other. I called for 'hand' and when I went to put it in I knew I wasn't going to get there and I shouted 'Stop Emily, Stop,'. I could see the end of the box but by then it was too late because she couldn't hear me."
Freeman added: "I think we lost a medal there and I'm partly to blame."
