YEP betting columnist Andy Taylor continues his traditional run-down of all 92 league clubs by focusing on the runners and riders in npower League One.
1. Southampton
(5/2 favourites – last season 7th)
Anybody who watched the Saints during the second half of last season will know this is a side waiting for lift off. Packed with Championship level players and led by a former Premier League manager in Alan Pardew, the south coast outfit should walk this division on their 125th anniversary with star striker Rickie Lambert scoring goals for fun on a weekly basis.
Star man: Rickie Lambert

2. Bristol Rovers
(25/1 – 11th)
There's a lot to like about a side that looks to have kicked on again from last season's decent effort. Will Hoskins is a great addition to the forward line and with young midfielder Wayne Brown also joining the Paul Trollope revolution, things look very rosy at the minute in the Memorial Ground garden.
Star man: Will Hoskins

3. Huddersfield Town
(8/1 – 6th)
With a nice solid effort behind them last season, Town look to have put the emphasis on recruiting old heads judging by the recent recruitment of Joey Gudjonsson, Ian Bennett and Gary Naysmith. They are undoubtedly going for broke though and might have to do it via the play-offs.
Star man: Joey Gudjonsson

4. Sheffield Wed
(9/2 – relegated from Championship)
This will be a real culture shock for everybody concerned and the 23 cup finals played at Elland Road last season have now most definitely been transferred to Hillsborough. With quality forwards including Marcus Tudgay, Clinton Morrison, Paul Heffernan and Neil Mellor at the club they will dish out the odd hammering but many sides will come for a point – and get it. With the taxman circling, fourth is as good as it gets.
Star man: Marcus Tudgay

5. Plymouth Argyle
(18/1 – relegated from Championship)
Argyle's squad looks fairly strong on paper, but defensive uncertainty has raised its ugly head already in recent friendlies. Still, they should be able to get themselves competitive at this level with new boss Peter Reid having a nice blend of youth and experience at his disposal.
Star man: Rory Fallon

6. Peterborough
(12/1 – relegated from Championship)
Embarrassing wasn't the word for it last season with managers coming and going and some very dirty laundry aired in public. New boss Gary Johnson has managed to keep the ones he wanted by the looks of it and with one or two additions they might just sneak into the final play-off place.
Star man: Craig Mackail-Smith

7. Charlton Athletic
(10/1 – 4th)
It's very hard to gauge the chances of a side who appear to have good players on paper, but a different set on grass. Akpo Sodje is a decent enough signing, Gary Doherty adequate but can Phil Parkinson get them to click? His managerial history suggests not.
Star man: Akpo Sodje

8. Brighton & Hove Albion
(14/1 – 13th)
Gus Poyet's first pre-season with the club was an interesting one with their game against Portimonense last weekend abandoned after prodigal son Ashley Barnes got involved in bouts of firstly handbags then knuckle dusters. He's still a good signing though and with Gordon Greer also joining the ranks, the Seagulls will fare better this year as a result.
Star man: Gordon Greer

9. Brentford
(28/1 – 9th)
I can't fault the summer additions at all with veteran Nicky Forster joined by a host of young and hungry players including quality full-backs Micky Spillane and Craig Woodman. They have not stood still and can at least equal last season's efforts.
Star man: Charlie MacDonald

10. Notts County
(22/1 – Champions League Two)
They made us a fortune last year by winning League Two and though their money's gone, a situation that has seen contracts cancelled for some of the top earners such as Kasper Schmeichel, goal machine Lee Hughes remains and love him or hate him the controversial figure will always do a job at this standard. Back him for top scorer in the division.
Star man: Lee Hughes

11. MK Dons
(22/1 – 12th)
Assistant manager John Gorman fancies the Dons to do well this season, but then again he also fancied England to win the World Cup. They've made one or two decent signings such as exciting QPR loanee Angelo Balanta and experienced pro Dietmar Hamann which makes them a good bet for the top half.
Star man: Angelo Balanta

12. Swindon Town
(16/1 – 5th)
Quite possibly the worst ante-post value of any side in any division this season. They over excelled last time around and with Billy Paynter having flown the Robins' nest – and the most notable acquisition being David Prutton – Town now look set for a spell of mid-table obscurity.
Star man: Vincent Pericard

13. Exeter City
(80/1 – 18th)
Great club from top to bottom with team spirit and brilliant man-management from Paul Tisdale the key to survival last season. The return of Billy Jones from Crewe will bolster things and Daniel Nardiello fresh from a bit-part role in Blackpool's fairytale should ensure the Grecians aren't found wanting in the goal stakes. Mid-table – and that suits.
Star man: Billy Jones

14. Walsall
(40/1 – 10th)
Chris Hutchings has done some decent business this summer and if the likes of Julian Gray, Aaron Lescott and Republic of Ireland keeper Dave Bevan play to anywhere near the level they have been at then the Saddlers will be able to coast through the campaign without having to look over their shoulder at any stage.
Star man: Julian Gray

15. Oldham Athletic
(50/1 – 16th)
Oldham failed to score in 26 games last season so no clues there as to what stopped any progress. New player-boss Paul Dickov is in charge so the dressing room is likely to be lively, but I'm not convinced even by him bringing in one or two decent players that he will be able to step up to the plate. Time will tell.
Star man: Warren Feeney

16. AFC Bournemouth
(66/1 – promoted from League Two)
The Cherries are no world beaters, but a tough pre-season programme that has seen the likes of Spurs and Fulham travel to Dean Court could stand them in good stead when they drop back to their own level. A very good young manager in Eddie Howe and as long as Brett Pitman stays fit he will always score goals.
Star man: Brett Pitman

17. Tranmere Rovers
(50/1 – 19th)
Gaffer Les Parry graduated last week with a PHD in 'the effects of de-training following injury in professional football.' Fascinating stuff – let's just hope he doesn't send the dressing room to sleep, a dressing room full of mediocre players and Ian Thomas-Moore
Star man: Ian Thomas-Moore

18. Yeovil Town
(80/1 – 15th)
Yeovil are a proper football club who deserve every bit of success they get. They are a limited team but manager Terry Skiverton has the knack of getting just enough out of them.
Star man: Dean Bowditch

19. Colchester United
(25/1 – 8th)
United seem to be obsessed with footballers from the same family judging by the number of players called A.Trialist on the teamsheet during the early friendlies. I'm seriously underwhelmed by the ones they eventually turned to, so expect a survival campaign.
Star man: Magnus Okuonghae

20. Carlisle United
(40/1 – 14th)
One thing's for certain – there won't be any need for the fans to come charging onto the pitch in celebration at anytime this season unless only just staying up counts. Quite simply a lot of the better quality players are another year older and they'll feel it on legs and backs after carrying younger colleagues again.
Star man: Ian Harte

21. Hartlepool
(80/1 – 20th)
Pools stayed up by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season, but with director of sport Chris Turner trailing behind in the recruitment stakes, they are unlikely to be as successful this time.
Star man: Andy Monkhouse

22. Leyton Orient
(50/1 – 17th)
Going nowhere fast judging by summer business that has seen a raft of journeymen replaced by a raft of journeymen. Russell Slade's charges are set to struggle throughout the campaign.
Star man: Matthew Spring

23. Dagenham & Redbridge
(125/1 – promoted from League Two)
The Daggers must be pinching themselves at the tough opening day trip to Sheffield Wednesday, but it's a fair bet that it will signify the start of a season-long nightmare. No depth and no chance of survival.
Star man: Darren Currie

24. Rochdale
(80/1 – promoted from League Two)
The commercial department are currently appealing for fans to sponsor every goal and judging by the lack of summer transfer activity and the horrendous finish to last season's promotion campaign, it won't be too costly a pledge. Relegation looks a certainty.
Star man: Gary Jones
