Luciano Becchio is on course to make his league debut in Leeds United's opening game of the season after shaking off a hamstring injury.
The Argentinian forward has resumed training following a brief spell on the sidelines, and Gary McAllister's summer signing from Merida UD is in contention for Saturday's clash with Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park.
McAllister omitted Becchio from last weekend's friendly against FCV Dender after the striker complained of a tight hamstring on Friday, but the Leeds boss will have a full quota of forwards to select from ahead of United's first League One fixture.
Jermaine Beckford and Enoch Showunmi are most likely to claim starting places at Scunthorpe following their effective performance against Dender, but Becchio scored 28 goals in 50 appearances for Merida last season and was rated highly enough by Leeds to merit a three-year contract at Elland Road.
The 24-year-old featured twice for United during their pre-season campaign, and he resumed training yesterday after resting over the weekend.
United's assistant manager Steve Staunton said: "He trained on Tuesday morning. He looked sharp and I'm sure he'll be fit for Saturday.
"It's nice to have a bit of competition there for the weekend. It's a case of who will be selected on the day and it's down to them to keep the jersey."
