THE city of Wakefield joined forces Thursday night to pay their last respects to "gentle giant" Adam Watene.
More than 1,000 friends, fans and players gathered at Wakefield Cathedral for a moving memorial service to the star, just hours after a funeral service for the Wakefield Wildcats prop took place in his native New Zealand.

The 31-year-old's death sent shockwaves through the community after he collapsed and died following a gym session on Monday October 13.

Mr Watene lived with his wife Moana, and two children, son Arana, 10, and daughter Ena, four, at their home in Castleford.
