Cricket aside, it has long been seen as a mecca for fancy dress enthusiasts across the UK.
And once again Headingley Carnegie stadium in Leeds played host to outlandishly costumed England fans at Saturday's sell out international against South Africa.

The usual themed throng of capering characters could be spotted about the ground inlcuding the Sir Jimmy Savile look-alikes, man brides and comic book superheroes.

A giant lobster, rooster and an "A" team of Mr Ts were instant entertainment on the boisterous West Stand, when not mingling among the food and drink stands tucked conveniently beneath the terrace.

But it was beehive-boasting singer Amy Winehouse who inspired the latest look on Day Two of the second test where dozens of cross-dressers favoured the dishevelled and tattooed look of the troubled popstar.

The capacity crowd was in good spirits as the sun defeated gloomy Met Office predictions, keeping the rain off until well into the evening.
Unfortunately the same could not be said for Michael Vaughan's side, who were overshadowed by the might of the Springboks.
Together they managed to take just one wicket the entire day, while Ashwell Prince put South Africa in firm charge at Headingley, winning a deserved 100 not out that helped the tourists to a 59 run lead at the tea interval.

A heavy downpour and failing light finally closed play shortly after 6.30pm.

Ian Marshall, 47, and Fred Grattage, 54, who along with 12 friends came dressed as A Team Mr Ts were among the winners of the npower fancy dress competition.

The group were presented a trophy by Mike Gatting, the chief competition judge, who said: "We've had some brilliant costumes through the gates at Headingley today.

"Everything from vikings and pirates to cowboys and even a group of bananas, but in the end, the winners of the npower Fancy Dress Trophy was an A-Team – the BA Baracus' from Stoke-on-Trent."
