Snipes handed three years in jail

ACTOR Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison, the maximum penalty, for failing to file tax returns.
Snipes's lawyers spent much of the day in court in Florida offering letters – even from fellow actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington – attesting to his good character.

But the judge said Snipes exhibited a "history of contempt over a period of time" for US tax laws, and granted prosecutors the three-year sentence they requested.
