Kaiser Chiefs star Nick 'Peanut' Baines has been forced to swap the tour bus for a hospital bed during a trip with his bandmates to South America.
Keyboard player Nick had an operation to remove his appendix last Thursday, it has emerged, after he came down with a bout of appendicitis in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo.

He was kept in hospital in Brazil overnight but was well enough to appear with his bandmates on stage at Sao Paulo's Planeta Terra festival on Saturday evening.

Nick was told by doctors, however, that he should wait a few days before travelling anywhere by plane.

That advice meant he was initially unable to join the rest of the Leeds-based band as their tour moved on to the USA.

They were due to play on Tuesday night at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles with members of their road crew filling in on keyboards - their first ever gig minus a full-time Kaiser.

Writing on their website, the band said: "We didn't want to let LA down and it's going to be a challenge but .... we'll deputise and make sure the show goes on!"

Nick is due to rejoin the Kaisers in time for a live date in Chicago on Thursday.
