CRICKETING legend Sir Ian Botham is to stop off in Harrogate on his latest long-distance charity walk.
He will visit nine towns between October 10-18 as he raises money for leukaemia research.
On day seven of his journey (October 16) he sets off from Marks & Spencer in Cambridge Street at 9.30am.
He then heads for Fountains Abbey where he will walk for four miles through the estate.
For the first time members of the public will be able to join Beefy on his travels.
They must pay a £10 fee and raise £250 in sponsorship.
M&S is sponsoring the event and will provide food and clothing throughout the walk.
Sir Ian, president of Leukaemia Research, says: "In 1985, when I first started walking to raise funds, the survival rate for children with leukaemia was 20 per cent.
"Now it is 80 per cent.
"I am determined to see all children survive in my lifetime."
The walk begins in Taunton – where Sir Ian started his professional cricket career – and also takes in Windsor, Tunbridge Wells, Bury St Edmunds, Stratford-upon-Avon, Llandudno and Milngavie and finishes in Durham where his career ended.
