It is believed the musician died from a suspected drugs overdose but West Yorkshire Police said detectives were waiting for toxicology test results after a post-mortem examination on Mr Rae's body proved inconclusive.

Officers arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs before later releasing him on bail pending further inquiries.

Bailey Rae, 29, met her musician husband while working as a cloakroom attendant at a Leeds jazz club. They married in 2001.

The Leeds-born singer is said to be devastated by her husband's death.
Her record label said in a statement: "EMI Records would like to offer its sincere condolences to Corinne Bailey Rae and the Rae family at this tragic time.

"We ask that the media respects Corinne's privacy and that of her entire family."

Fans of Bailey Rae wrote messages of support on her website following the news, while fans of Mr Rae left tributes on his band's Facebook website.

The Haggis Horns, who have played as a backing band for Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Bailey Rae herself, recently released a well-received debut album called Hot Damn!

The inquest into Mr Rae's death will open at Leeds Coroner's Court this morning.
