ELECTRO 80's legend Gary Numan will be enjoying a picnic with a difference in Yorkshire this summer.
Entrepreneur Simon Adamson is launching the UK's first "24 hour musical picnic" featuring a host of international live acts.

Tickets have just gone on sale for The Magic Loungeabout at Newburgh Priory in Coxwold, North Yorkshire, on August 30.

Music lined up for the event is described as folktronica by day and electronica by night with performances from The Egg, Pacific, Morcheeba and Gary Numan whose hit Cars was an 80s classic.

Harrogate-born Simon, who splits his time between Leeds and London, has launched the event to offer a "grown up festival experience" as an alternative to the existing UK summer festivals. He hopes to attract 4.500 people.

Having spent several years working in the media in London, he was disillusioned by the lack of credible music events in the North and decided to bring the UK's first 24-hour musical picnic to Yorkshire.

He explained: "The Magic Loungeabout aims to offer the 'ideal stress-free festival'. We've used feedback from event-goers across the UK and have come up with a unique concept without the hassles associated with festivals to create an intimate and contemporary way to enjoy live music."

Guests can picnic in the landscaped gardens of Newburgh Priory, between York and Thirsk, during the day with unspoilt views across the North Yorkshire Moors National Park as far as the White Horse of Kilburn.

Those who want a break from the music can spend time playing on a golf simulator, shopping at an on-site farmer's market or having a massage in the site's spa area.

Children will be catered for by a professional crèche and there will be hourly story reading.

Overnight camping in the gardens of Newburgh Priory will be available at no extra cost – with a "boutique" camping experience available in the site's Yurt village which features nomadic, environmentally friendly tents (Yurts) decorated with woollen rugs.

Simon worked for Capital Radio in London before moving to Emap, where he was involved in the launch of several internet media platforms and television channels including FHM.com, Kiss, Kerrang, The Box and Smash Hits.

l Admission is £78 and children under nine go free. Bookings can be made online through www.themagicloungeabout.co.uk
