DAILY MAIL: Brian Ashton left Twickenham last night after crisis talks and the RFU will today announce he has been relieved of his duties as England head coach with immediate effect. Also: Fabio Capello sees Wayne Rooney as a future England captain but says the striker still needs to develop a killer instinct in front of goal... Real Madrid will bring forward their plans to sing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer after claiming Manchester United's prolific winger can succeed Zinedine Zidane as the new darling of the Bernabeu.

DAILY EXPRESS: Fabio Capello has warned that any England player dropping out of England's friendlies next month will run the risk of never being chosen by him again. THE GUARDIAN: Harry Redknapp is taking proceedings against the City of London Police, believed to relate to his arrest last November as part of the force's ongoing football "corruption inquiry". Also: Fabio Capello has demanded that Wayne Rooney improve his finishing... England's captain, Michael Vaughan, gave Andrew Flintoff the perfect fillip ahead of the County Championship season, which begins today, by proclaiming that he could return for the first Test at Lord's next month if he proves his fitness.

THE INDEPENDENT: Didier Drogba's injury problems mean that Chelsea hope to get their striker fit for Tuesday's Champions League semi-final first leg against Liverpool rather than tomorrow night's match against Everton. Also: Emmanuel Adebayor claims Arsenal owe it to their fans to finish the season on a high rather than looking back to reflect on what might have been.
