Tigers need cure for away day blues

EXPERIENCED hooker Andy Henderson admits Castleford Tigers' poor away form is a mystery.
Tigers have been competitive in all of their 10 home fixtures so far this season, winning three of them and drawing another, but have won just once on their travels.
Cas are back on the road this weekend, for Sunday's game at Harlequins, just nine days after a 68-12 drubbing at St Helens.
It is too late to make much of a difference to the current campaign, but Henderson admits Tigers need to find a cure for their travel sickness as they begin preparations for the 2009 season.
Reflecting on Tigers' problems away from the Jungle, Henderson said: "I can't put my finger on it.
"We have got as much right to win away as at home, so I don't know why we haven't stepped up when we've been away.
"At home, we haven't always won, but we have been competitive in pretty much every match. It is something we've got to fix and fix quickly.
"We've still got another couple of away games and if we want to achieve our goal of finishing off the bottom, we've got to win away and soon."
Newly-promoted from National One, this was always going to be a difficult year for Tigers.
Henderson feels they have shown good signs at times, but he admits the state of the table is a fair reflection of the way their season has gone.
"You're always going to have a team at the bottom and one at the top," he said.
"There's been a few games when we've lost in the last minute or two and if we could have got some points from those, we may have been up with Huddersfield and Hull or even above them.
"But that's probably happened to every team in Super League this year, there's a lot of would've, could've, should've.
"We are there for a reason and that's because we haven't been getting results and defensively we've let in too many points – just look at our for and against.
"We've played a really good brand of rugby at times, but defensively we have let ourselves down too many times.
"Some games we have scored more than 30 points and still lost. That shows we've got too many defensive flaws and coming into next season that needs to be improved."
Henderson reckons Tigers still have something to play for this year. He said: "We are trying to get off the bottom.
"That's a goal we set a couple of weeks ago, to try and catch Huddersfield and Hull and try and overtake one if not both.
"We have got six to go and we've got to rely on other results, but if we can improve our performances and come home with a strong finish, there's no reason why we can't be off the bottom by the end of the season."
Victory at Quins this weekend would give Tigers a timely boost after the morale-sapping drubbing at Knowsley Road, which Henderson said was due to a combination of a scintillating Saints performance and a poor one by Cas.
"They came out on fire," he said.
