PROUD boss John Kear believes Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are capable of beating anybody in engage Super League this year – but he admits tonight's trip to Headingley Carnegie is the ultimate challenge.
Wildcats are on a six-match winning run in all competitions, while hosts Leeds Rhinos – who are five points clear at the top of the table –have won their last five.

Kear said: "I think we are capable of beating anybody on a given day, but I also think any other team's capable of beating us on any given day.

"That's what's making the competition so interesting. We've won our last six, but I think – though we've had blips like the first half against Leeds at home, the last 25 at Harlequins and the first half against Harlequins at home – generally we've played pretty well all season."

That opening period against Leeds – back in February – saw Wildcats trail 38-0, before eventually going down 44-8.

"The first 40 minutes was horrific," recalled Kear. "I'd put that down in part to our under-performing and Leeds performing at their absolute maximum.

"At that point in time they were in irresistible form and it's credit to them that they've maintained some pretty good form throughout.

"They've been the most consistent team this season, so you've got to admire the work Brian McClennan's doing and his players are doing.

"I think we are a lot better team than the last time we played them. We've improved in lots of areas and Leeds have maintained an improvement as well.

"Perhaps our improvement has been a bit more rapid than Leeds' gradual improvement from a very good start."

Kear admitted he expected Rhinos to dip after their Carnegie World Club Challenge triumph and he has been impressed by the way they've held their form.

"It has been Super League and then Leeds, they have been the best team of the year so far," he said.

"They aren't going to go through the rest of the season undefeated, somebody will get them once or perhaps they might lose a couple, but the signs are that they are going to be the team to beat throughout this year.

"Leeds at Leeds is probably the biggest challenge in Super League this year."

Both sides are getting key players back after injury, but Kear insists nobody is guaranteed to walk straight into his team.

"We've had a choice this week, which has been good," he said.
