This is not a rehearsal – it's the real thing!
That's coach John Kear's message to his Wakefield Trinity Wildcats troops ahead of tomorrow's crunch engage Super League trip to Bradford Bulls.
The game comes just a week before Wildcats take on Hull in their first Challenge Cup semi-final for 29 years.
But only points difference separates sixth-placed Bulls from Wakefield in seventh on the league table and the prize for tomorrow's victors is a two-point breathing space with just five games of the regular season remaining.
Kear insisted: "I don't see it as building for next week, it is for two competition points in Super League and is a vital game.
"It is no rehearsal, it is a four-pointer. It is very important for us."
The Wakefield coach is confident his players won't be distracted by the looming semi-final.
"I certainly hope not and I've not seen any indication of that in training," said Kear, who admitted places in the team to face Hull are still up for grabs.
"We are concentrating on getting a performance and we will be picking our strongest-available team this week.
"It is an important game and I also see it as very important for us to do the proper processes, so we are supporting well, we've got some structure in defence and we're working hard in our kick-chase.
"They are little indicators that we are hitting a bit of form again and I want to see that in the 80 minutes this week.
"It is usually tight when we play Bradford, they are capable of beating us and we are capable of beating them.
"They have a very good home record and it is a tough place to come away with anything from, so the challenge is there for us." Kear has been alarmed by a drop in Wildcats' defensive standards during their current three game losing run and he admitted that has been a focus in training over the past few days.
"With our preparation we tend to do 50-50 (defence and attack), but I must admit it has been 60-40 this week, in favour of defence," he said.
Bradford coach Steve McNamara was upset with the amount of errors his side made in their defeat at Warrington last week and wants a marked improvement in all phases of play tomorrow.
He said: "The errors that were made were because a lot of our backfield players were throwing passes they shouldn't have and dropping the ball whilst playing it.
"These are elementary mistakes and we need to get smarter in areas like concentration and understanding the scoreboard and the situation. If we cut those things out we should be okay."
Wakefield are still without both first-choice centres Ryan Atkins and Tony Martin because of injury as they seek to end a three-match losing run ahead of next week's semi-final. Winger Paul Reilly and second rower Duncan McGillivray are added to the team that lost to Hull.
Bradford have centre Paul Sykes back from suspension and hooker Terry Newton returns from injury.
