Fans fear a lack of commitment on and off the field could threaten Castleford Tigers' place in engage Super League next season.
The Castleford Tigers Supporters Club have written an open letter to the board of directors, demanding an explanation for the team's dismal form this term.

Tigers are three points adrift at the foot of the table with just two wins – against last s
eason's Grand Finalists Leeds Rhinos and St Helens – in 14 games.

Cas have the smallest squad in the top-flight and are understood to be one of the clubs whose place next year could be under threat when Super League licences are handed out in two months' time.

In their letter, which they say is on behalf of all Tigers fans, the supporters' committee claim this season has turned out to be "the most disappointing for many years".

The letter adds: "With the exception of two games there has been a distinct lack of pride, passion and commitment, both on and off the pitch.

"The board of directors has a responsibility to the army of loyal supporters who feel bitterly demoralised and embarrassed by the current performance of the club.

"We are very concerned that the present situation may affect our Super League licence application and therefore the continued place of Castleford Tigers in the top echelon of rugby league.

"As the officials of the Castleford Tigers Supporters Club, we ask publicly, on behalf of our members and other concerned Castleford Tigers fans how and when the club proposes to rectify matters."

Tigers spokesman David Smart said chief executive Richard Wright plans to speak to the supporters' club, but did not wish to comment further.

Ironically, the supporters club is hosting a meet the coaches event tonight when fans will have an opportunity to put their point of view to Tigers' backroom staff.

Former Tigers trialist Dwain Chambers will find out this week if he has a future in rugby league.

Castleford decided not to offer the the 30-year-old sprinter a contract following the completion of a month-long trial, while Widnes Vikings have also ruled out signing Chambers.
