Relegated Dewsbury Rams almost grabbed a shock result in their final game in National One.
The Rams battled back from 28-12 down to draw level with Sheffield Eagles at 28-28 only to be beaten by a try six minutes from time.
Dewsbury made a strong start with a try from prop James Walker converted by Patrick Walker.
That stung the Eagl
es and tries from stand-off Bendon Lindsay and centre Mike Roby, with full-back Jonny Woodcock adding the goals, put them ahead.
Centre James Ford's try increased the lead but Dewsbury stayed in the game with a try from winger Tom Colleran converted by Patrick Walker, but a Woodcock penalty just before half-time gave Eagles an 18-12 lead.
The hosts then seemed to have settled the game with touchdowns from Woodcock and winger Rob Worrincy, Woodcock converting his try.
But the Rams, with Patrick Walker in impressive form, refused to give in. Two tries for centre Kane Epati, Patrick Walker converting the first, started the fightback. The Rams drew level when Luke Haigh stormed in for the third in a 20-minute spell, Walker adding the goal.
But Roby's second try converted by Woodcock gave Eagles the win.
