Dewsbury and Featherstone matches at the Tetley's Stadium are often classics, but this wasn't one of them.
It was a scrappy game so full of errors that poor referee Jamie Leahy must have got cramp flapping his arms about all afternoon.

There were countless dropped passes and balls lost in the tackle and I've never seen so many forward passes in a match
before.

The frustration boiled over in the 70th minute when Dewsbury's sub James Walker and Featherstone prop Tony Tonks were both sin-binned after a clash that saw punches thrown and the entire teams piling in.

Still, a couple of Featherstone players rose above the prickly and the poor and created the platform for their side's win over the wooden spooners.

Prop Stuart Dickens scored two tries and almost had a hat-trick while his goal-kicking swelled his personal points tally to 18.

Stand-off Anthony Thackeray also looked sharp and he picked up a couple of tries, one on either side of half-time.

Featherstone ran the show after the break scoring 24 points to Dewsbury's six.

Most tries came from solo efforts near the line as neither side looked capable of stringing a decent move together.

The Rams led 14-12 at half-time thanks to a dogged defence and two opportunist tries from close range by centre turned second-row Andy Bostock and hooker Liam Finn, who with try-scoring centre Kane Epati was Dewsbury's steadiest player.

Dickens and Thackeray kept Featherstone in it and then as Dewsbury began to fade – they had to play 79 minutes without the injured Dominic Maloney – tries also fell to second-row Joe Hirst and hooker Jack Lee.

Lee's late touchdown took away the Rams bonus point and left them ending their home programme in disappointing style.

At least the crowd topped 1,000, which will encourage Dewsbury's hard-working chairman Mark Sawyer.

He now has to decide what he can budget for as the Rams go into National League Two.

Let's hope he didn't notice that almost half the fans were from Featherstone.

Dewsbury Rams: Colleran, Buchanan, Hall, Epati, Cook, Smith, Tillotson, Trinder, Finn, Maloney, Glassie, Bostock, Walker P. Subs: Greenwood, Robinson, Crawley, Walker J.

Featherstone Rovers: Wildbore, Wilson, Dooler, Saxton, Kirk, Thackeray, Handforth, Tonks, Lee, Dickens, Field, Hirst, Blakeway.
