CUTSYKE kicked off their season in the Unison First Division of the Yorkshire League with a 40-22 win against Birstall Victoria.

Cutsyke went 10-0 up with tries by Dan Wilson and Adam Spears, plus a Danny Huby conversion before Victoria opened their account with tries by Garth Scott and Joe Waters, plus a Scott conversion.

Just before half-time Huby put Cutsyke 16-10 in
front with a converted try. He repeated the feat after the break before Jack Foster replied with a try for Victoria, goaled by Scott.

Cutsyke went 40-16 up when Spears added his second touchdown and Wilson completed his hat-trick. Jonathan Hardy and Adam Thirling tagged on goals. Vic added a final try through Rob Birstall, Scott converting.

In the second division, Oulton Raiders A went top after beating Bentley Good Companions 42-26. Matty Bullough, Danny Elston and Phil Joyce went in for first-half tries and two goals came from the boot of Lee Brown.

Mick Rodgerson scored the only try for Bentley in this period but after the break they re-discovered their form and rattled 24 points past the hosts with tries by Doug Reid, Paul Purnell, Scott Smith and Rodgerson, plus four goals by Josh Clegg.

Down 26-16 Oulton launched a comeback featuring tries by Bullough, Ash Newman, Steve Hart, Olly Graham and Terry Andrews, Brown converting two.

In the same division Wakefield City beat Sherburn Bears 28-12.

Their tryscorers were Warwick Coulig (2), Shaun Smith, Andrew Shephard, and Craig Sykes, Lee Southward kicking four goals.

After the interval, Sherburn scored a good try by Paul Nickleson. This was converted by Steve Wood who then touched down himself and added the goal.

In Division Three, Walton beat Castleford Panthers A 14-11 thanks to a remarkable second-half hat-trick.

Panthers looked the part before the break and took a handy lead with tries by Alan Phelps and Shaun Simpson, plus a Simpson goal.

Matthew Bolton then embarked on his try-scoring feat for Walton, touching down three times in succession. Jason Knowles converted his second to push Walton 14-10 ahead. Simpson dropped a goal to close the gap but Walton held on.

In Division Four, Eastmoor Dragons trounced Old Church Tavern A 66-8 with John Sharp cutting through a wafer-thin Tavern defence for four tries.

Ali Hazelgrave, Shaun Upson, Danny Noon (2), Matty Hayward (2), Peter Craven and Daz Sykes added scores and Hayward finished with six goals and Ged Boucher three.

After a pointless first half in which they trailed 28-0, Tavern's eventual tryscorer was Mick Stanley and Dave Dutcliffe added a couple of goals.

In the same division, Gildersome pulled off a 44-10 win against Heckmondwike with tries by Danny Windle (2), Danny Grimes, Danny Ainsworth, Shaun Greenlee, Steve Moldrum and Dean Carter while Paul Davey added eight goals.

Heckmondwike's tries fell to Mick Farnell and Dave Berry with Rob Harewood landing a first-half penalty.

In the Premier Division, the all-Leeds derby between Hunslet Old Boys and Hunslet Warriors ended in an emphatic 46-6 away win for the Warriors, while Queens trounced Old Church Tavern from Pontefract 54-6 away.

Upton thrashed Batley Boys 60-18. The results leave Queens on top and Hunslet Warriors second.
