A motorcyclist has died after falling from his motorbike near Harrogate.

A man aged in his 50s and from the Ripon area came off his white and silver BMW bike as he was travelling west on Kirkby Lane, from Sicklinghall towards the neighbouring village of Netherby.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision which took place at about 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, September 25).

A black Volkswagen Polo was travelling in the opposite direction.

Investigations are ongoing and officers said they were not yet in a position to release the identity of the deceased.

Anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision is asked to call TC Mark Mullens at North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number 12160175076.
