HALIFAX Town have been demoted to the UniBond League after the club's appeal over expulsion from the Football Conference failed.
The Shaymen were told at last Saturday's Conference annual meeting the club were no longer part of the Conference constitution in view of their failure to come out of administration before the set deadline.

Halifax subsequently appealed to the Foo
tball Association but Wednesday's hearing failed and the club had until 1pm on Friday to submit an application to join the UniBond League.

A club consortium submitted the application but complications saw the deadline extended, the main issue surrounding which division Halifax would join. The FA's Leagues Committee placed Halifax in Division One North but the club's consortium were seeking a place in the Premier Division.

The club now have a further deadline to meet certain conditions by 5pm on Tuesday.

These include playing at the Shay, forming a business plan and depositing £5,000 which will be refunded in full if the reformed club meets its obligations for the 2008-09 season.

Should Halifax be placed in Division One North, they will have effectively been relegated three times.

After their appeal to the FA had been turned down, a club statement posted by trust communications director Jonathan Monaghan stated that Halifax had been clinging to a last ray of hope.

"Halifax Town Supporters' Trust is disappointed that the club's appeal over its expulsion from the Football Conference has failed," read the statement.

"The advice we had received was that the Football Association would back the Conference with its chosen punishment over the club's failure to come out of Administration by the given deadline.

"However, we had clung on to the slight hope that the appeal would be successful, allowing the club to continue to participate in the Blue Square Premier.

"We are grateful to David Bosomworth and the members of his consortium for their efforts to maintain the club's position in the league structure."
