York boss Colin Walker is demanding goals at Dean Saunders' Wrexham tonight in what may prove his misfiring strikers' last chance.
Onome Sodje is sidelined with a hamstring injury and City missed his predatory instincts on Saturday as they drew 0-0 at home to Cambridge United.
Daniel McBreen and Craig Farrell started upfront but failed to score, as did replacements Richard Br
odie and teenage substitute Adam Boyes.
A disappointed Walker looks set to raid the loan market to bolster City's strikeforce but the manager admits tonight's clash probably comes too soon to make any changes.
It's not quite last chance saloon for his strikers but Walker's patience is fading fast.
"They've got to step up to the mark," demanded the York boss.
"They've had plenty of chances and now they really need to start taking these chances.
"It is frustrating – frustrating is a good word – but they've got to keep working hard at it.
"We have got players who have scored goals before at this level but they have got to step up to the mark again.
"Saturday we bossed the game from start to finish but we just couldn't score.
"That's what I think, that's how it is, and we've got to be better."
Tonight's hosts Wrexham began the season as big fancies for the Blue Square Premier title but a poor two months led to the departure of manager Brian Little.
Now there is fresh optimism at the Racecourse Ground with Dean Saunders and new assistant Terry Darracott in charge and Walker admits there will be no hiding place should his men underperform.
"It's like a new start for them, they've got a new manager and I see Terry Darracott has just gone in as assistant," said Walker.
"They are two very passionate people and they'll be looking to push on.
"They'll be backed by a very passionate Welsh crowd and we'll have a battle on.
"We've got to battle against that."
Walker also revealed players will leave KitKat Crescent should he find it necessary to raid the loan market.
"We'll have to get rid of one or two first, but it's something we're looking at and something we're working hard on," said Walker. "Watch this space."
