Boss John Deacey is confident the signs of success are clearly visible at Farsley Celtic despite a variable start to the season.
A goalless stalemate at Gainsborough on Tuesday evening made it two wins, two draws and three defeats for the Celts from their opening seven games in Blue Square North.

But Deacey has seen enough to suggest Farsley, who host Stalybridge Celtic tom
orrow, have the right ingredients to mount a bid to bounce back up to the Conference at the first time of asking.

Deacey said: "I'm not disappointed with the start, I am just disappointed we are not turning good performances into wins.

"Tuesday was a classic example. We dominated the whole second half, were then glad of a point when we had Amjad Iqbal sent off, but then again we weren't because we still created chances after that to win the game.

"We have a big test on Saturday now because Stalybridge are flying at the moment. They will be up there at the end of the season. They were in the play-offs last season and I don't see any reason why they won't be again.

"But we have a good side. I can see we're going to be up there as well by the things we are doing and the football we are playing. We just need to settle down a bit and start converting it into results."

Iqbal was sent off with just over a quarter-of-an-hour to go on Tuesday when he brought down a Gainsborough forward. The referee adjudged he was the last man and showed him a red card – eventually.

The Pakistan international was at first mixed up with Jamie Price, who was initially dismissed only to be called back on to the field.

Iqbal, who was making his first start of the season after recovering from an ankle injury, now faces a one-match ban.

But there was some good news for a Celts player this week, with former Middlesbrough striker Andy Campbell named the Blue Square North player of the month for August after notching five goals.

Deacey said: "He deserves it. He has settled in really well and been a credit to himself and the club.

"He is a true professional and it rubs off on all the other players. He is fantastic in training, his attitude is great. He is a nice bloke and he puts the work in as well, so it's nice to see him get the award."

Iqbal will be available tomorrow as his ban doesn't kick in for a fortnight, but Deacey will be without Andy Watson (foot) and James Knowles (unavailable).
