UniBond Premier strugglers Ossett Town have brought in ex-England international Peter Davenport as an advisor to help revitalise their flagging fortunes.
Boss Simon Collins played under the former Nottingham Forest and Manchester United marksman when he was manager at Macclesfield, with the Scouser checking out Ossett in their 2-1 loss at Ashton United at the weekend.

In other backroom changes, Mat
t Daly has been appointed as the new assistant manager in place of Gareth Stoker, with Steve Kelly taking over the reserves in place of Brian Tate.

And Collins – whose side go to leaders Ilkeston tonight – has also revealed he is hoping to bring in his former Huddersfield team-mate Kevin Gray as player-coach.

Collins has presided over just two wins in 11 league matches with the Ingfielders' struggling in third bottom.

But he is confident the backroom changes will help engineer a renaissance, while revealing he has no plans to throw in the towel and quit his role as boss.

On enlisting the help of Davenport, Collins said: "Dav's come in to help me as a bit of an adviser. He has a lot of contacts and knows his football.

"He came and watched the game on Saturday and gave a bit of an assessment on our strengths and weaknesses and what we need to improve on.

"To be honest, we had a look at our notes at half-time and full-time and the ones that me and Matt (Daly) put down said exactly the same thing as Dav's.

"If they were miles away, there'd be a problem!

"Dav took Southport to the brink of promotion (last year), but was then relieved of his duties, bizarrely, when they were top of the league.

"He's come to help me out and it's good that the club can attract high-profile people like him.
