West Yorkshire League Premier Division champions Carlton Athletic suffered an opening-day jolt, crashing 3-0 at home to rampant Whitkirk Wanderers.
On target for Wanderers were Lewe Womersley, Paul Graham and Stephen Jowett.

A Marc Saunders strike gave newly-promoted Leeds City a 1-0 victory at Field Sports and Social.

Another side who came up – Otley Town – also triumphed, winning 2-1 against Rothwell Athletic, thanks to a Chris Alderson strike and an own goal. Steve Ball on target for Rothwell.

Last season's runners up Bardsey showed their intent for a tilt at the title when they prevailed 3-2 at Knaresborough Town, courtesy of goals from Arthur Connelly, Mike Longfellow and Bill Halliday.

Knaresborough scorers were Fraser Lancaster and Jim Bradley.

Boroughbridge were the division's top scorers with a 5-0 thrashing of Ripon, with their marksmen being Paul Vincent (2), Ben Darville, Neil Murphy and Danny Purvess.

Sherburn drew 2-2 with derby rivals Wetherby, Alex Booth and Jamie Wright netting for Sherburn and Gareth Williamson replying with a double.

In Division One, newly-promoted East End Park saw off Pontefract Sports and Social 2-1, thanks to Owen Drinkall and Kyle Wilkinson, with Darrel Kendall replying.

The other teams promoted from Division Two, Old Centralians and Featherstone Colliery both went down – a goal from Hartshead's Richard Walker seeing off Centralians.

Colliery lost 4-0 to Woodhouse Hill, whose goal plunderers were Josh Frecker, Rob Rice and Richard Kennedy – an own goal sealing their haul.

Robin Hood Athletic (Scott Murgatroyd) lost 3-1 at Ilkley, whose scorers were Mark Houlston, Danny Henderson and James Kelly.

Kellingley Welfare and Horbury Town drew 0-0. New boys Oxenhope showed their credentials with a thrilling 7-0 victory over Boston Spartans, Tom Wallbank and Jonathan Clew hitting hat-tricks and Graham Robinson sealing their haul.

South Milford triumphed 3-0 at Swillington, courtesy of goals from Daniel Morgan, Oliver Lee and Simon Cunningham.

New-look Barwick – who finished bottom last season – enjoyed a fine start, beating Brighouse Old Boys 4-2, with goals notched by Milanbo Makini, Shotairo Hgittori, Fidel Mhlodo and Anthony Dyson. Replying for Brighouse were Adam Bedford and Lee Malcher.

Mount St Mary's were given a lesson in scoring when they travelled to Baildon Trinity Athletic, losing 7-1, with Scott Halliday firing a treble, Michael Mayolon and Scott Lee adding doubles.
