Celtic and Irish draw a thriller

A THRILLING West Riding Premier Division encounter saw winless Ardsley Celtic settle for a point in a frantic 4-4 draw at Halifax Irish.

Scorers for Celtic – who led 3-2 at the interval – were Dave Ward (2), Craig Conley and Glenroy Hylton, with Gareth Jones and Michael Pearson replying with doubles for Irish.

Another side yet to hit the winning trail are Hemsworth MW, who lost out
1-0 at Kirkburton, Lee Bradley netting in the first half.

Lower Hopton slumped to their third loss in three matches, crashing 3-0 at home to Ovenden WR, whose scorers were Steve Fullard, Mike Palethorpe and Chris Gent.

Champions Bay Athletic lead the rest after thumping Golcar United 5-1, thanks to goals from Steve Perrin, Kitson Gayle, Adam Bell, Marcus Mitchell and Freddie McGillvery.

John Penn (2) and Micah Bleau were the marksmen as Campion triumphed 3-2 at Overthorpe SC, whose scorers were Scott Hargreaves and John Smith.
Another side who enjoyed a successful away-day were Meltham Athletic, who vanquished Brighouse Town 3-0, thanks to strikes from John Newiss (2) and Michael Robertson, while visiting Wibsey won 3-1 at Marsden, courtesy of Declan Corby, Damian Melvin and Michael Garnett.

In Division One, a stirring rally counted for nothing as Heckmondwike Town were edged out 4-3 at Crag Road United. Scorers for Town, who trailed 3-1 at the break, were Richard Cleghorn (2) and Elliott Williams.

On the money for United were Paul Moorhouse, Ryan Dean, Ben Wilkinson and Danny Firth.

Eastmoor were made to sweat before seeing off Keighley Shamrocks 3-2.
On the mark for Moor, who forged a 2-0 half-time lead, were Tom Whitaker (2) and Warren Pashley.

Shamrocks' marksmen were Mathew Kershaw and Danny Fynn.
Littletown recovered from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Dudley Hill Rangers, with Mike Hutton on the scoresheet while Floyd Phillips put through his own net.

Goals from Tyrone Breaks and Chris Brandon had put Rangers in the box seat.

Colin Horsfield hit a treble as Steeton went nap in a 5-0 triumph at South Bradford, while Jordan Missin went one better with all four goals in Albion Sports' 4-2 win at Tyersal.

Rob Bloomfield's quick-fire first-half hat-trick helped Wakefield City kick off with a 3-1 win at Ventus/Yeadon Celtic, whose scorer was Shane McGougan.

In Division Two, goals from Danny Clapham and Gareth Saville couldn't stop Liversedge being edged out 3-2 at Rawdon Old Boys, whose scorers were Anthony Townsley (2) and Dean Edwards – Townsley hitting a last-minute winner.

Paul Gott hit all four goals for Dudley Hill, but still ended up on the losing side as Kirkburton Reserves triumphed 6-4.

Morley Town, whose scorers were Gary Noble and Mathew Aveyard, crashed 4-2 to Dynamoes, all the goals coming in the first half.

Chris Helliwell's treble helped Campion Reserves win 5-4 at Steeton, with defeat tough on home marksman Mark Hardiman, who fired a treble.
