Understanding hearing loss

Have your say

IT’S Deaf Awareness Week from May 2-8. Most of your readers will come across people with hearing loss every day and might not even realise it. But there are nine million people in the UK right now with some form of hearing loss.

It is important for all of us to learn and understand about how people who are deaf or have hearing loss communicate so that they are not excluded from the hearing world.

Think how hard it is not to be able to share the joke, or to miss out on an interesting conversation, every single day.

I want to encourage your readers to visit the Royal National Institute for Deaf People’s website at www.rnid.org.uk/DAW and learn more about communication with people who are deaf or have hearing loss so we can make sure we are including those who may otherwise be suffering in silence.
