It must have been with some considerable disbelief, seeing the photograph of a ‘sculpture’ No 700 in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, YEP 16 Feb,consisting of three rusty sections of ‘I’ beams, Rolled Steel Joists or Universal Beams, stacked one on top of each other, leaving many experienced steel stockholders, warehouse men, construction engineers, erectors and scrap yard men who have stacked steel all their lives for a basic wage wondering just where did their career go wrong? Who are the customers of Martin Creed who pay for this artistic rubbish? He is certainly on to a good thing. This must surely be the latest example of the ‘Emperors New Clothes’.
