Have your say

I HAVE read recent letters in your paper regarding former soldier Mark Everall and his search for a council home.

I would like to reassure both the Everall family and your readers that I have personally followed up this situation to assure myself that the council was doing all it could to support Mark.

I can tell you that he is on the highest priority available and any bids he makes should therefore attract top rating. There is a well-documented shortage of council homes in Leeds, and I sympathise with everyone who is struggling to find suitable accommodation for their family.

However, I completely understand the view expressed by your readers that someone like Mark, who has served his country with courage and honour, deserves to find a home for his family in his home town. I will ensure that the council continues to do all it can to make this happen as soon as possible.
