I was very interested to read Juliette Bains’ report about Heatons Clothiers at Leeds, as both my parents were employed there when I was a child.
My father was a tailor’s cutter and mum was a sewing machinist. They met on the factory steps in a lunch break. Mum had a treadle sewing machine in our house and we always had coats made by her and handed down through the family. I was lucky – I wore them from new!
