The Junior Ilkley Harriers have been named primary beneficiaries of this year’s ‘At The Movies’ themed May Day Ilkley Carnival.

The Ilkley Carnival committee voted in favour of the group receiving half of the 2017 profits raised on May 1 to go towards building a compact athletics training facility.

Committee chairman Andrew Stacey said: “Making the final decision is always a challenge with so many deserving local good causes but the Junior Ilkley

Harriers’ application stood out because the travel required for coaching is deterring juniors from getting active and preventing some from reaching their full potential. We felt that the funds raised would make a tangible difference by improving facilities for this sporting organisation which has been a part of the community for more than 10 years.”
