WHATEVER would Jane Tomlinson make of the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K?
She founded the run shortly before her death from cancer in 2007, Now the 10th event is almost upon us and her husband Mike is rightly proud.
Jane, he says, would be thrilled that the event has not only survived but is continuing to grow. That is down to the hard work of the organisers and the support of the people of Leeds and beyond.
On the 10th of July 2006, Jane was cycling across the Nevada desert to raise money to launch the first Leeds 10K. And 10 years later, it seems all that effort has been worthwhile.
Leeds icons such as former United player Eddie Gray, Rhinos favourite Barrie McDermott and Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick helped to launch this year’s event.
Michelle, who ran the event last year for her first 10K, said it was fantastic to see so many people turn out.
Too right. especially when you consider the good causes such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Martin House Children’s Hospice, St George’s Crypt and Sue Ryder.
Wouldn’t it be just fitting if this year’s event drew a record number of competitors?
The event will also include the Clarion Leeds 10K Corporate Challenge, which will be contested by hundreds of staff from local businesses.
