it’s AN unlikely landmark – a traditional DIY shop among the chrome and glass edifices of modern Leeds.

But Mr Arkwright’s Tool Emporium on Boar Lane will be missed. This shop might sound like something out of a sitcom but it is one of the most familiar shops in the city. So, do we not need Arkwright’s any more? To the contrary, sister stores in Meanwood and Harrogate will continue and owner Clive Owen has started a franchise which could create 200 shops nationally.

Let’s hope Arkwright’s goes from strength to strength. Every town and city needs an Arkwright’s.
