This week it was students struggling not just with exam pressure but also social media portraying a glossy, airbrushed life rather than the more down-to-earth reality.

That is why the Yorkshire Evening Post’s #SpeakYourMind campaign to encourage people to talk about mental health and combat the stigma surrounding it is so important. It is also why Asda’s £380,000 donation to The Leeds Fund can help make such a difference.

The money for the fund which provides a unique opportunity for people to give back and invest in the city will help projects that support people with mental health issues.

All of the projects have been developed by people who have experience of mental health problems and the community groups that work with them, meaning they are tailored directly to the needs of local people and can make the greatest impact.

The Yorkshire Evening Post congratulates both Asda for their generous contribution and also the Leeds Community Foundation for choosing mental health as a key priority for the Leeds Fund. We hope Asda’s generosity will inspire others to get involved in this great cause too.

To make a difference we need more projects like these – but also to keep talking about them.
