YEP Says: £50m Leeds mill plan is a welcome idea

Have your say

MANY of Leeds’s best old buildings were huge mills and factories where thousands of people worked.

Some have been redeveloped but many have been lost and Leeds is all the poorer for losing these links with the past.

After all, it’s these vast complexes which gave Leeds its wealth and, to some extent, its identity. So it is good news that a mill which has lain derelict for 40 years is to be revived.

The former Hunslet and Victoria flax spinning mills is to be transformed into a 3.1 acre residential site as part of a £50m plan.

It is much better to redevelop such a landmark than create a modern building.
