Why fox hunting should never be revived

I take offence at the comments contained in Deborah Atkins' letter (YEP August 28), regarding fox hunting.

"Uneducated, squeamish city dwellers, who think they have the right to dictate from afar the way in which who live in the country should live their lives". Quite frankly, I couldn't care less how this woman lives her life.

What I do care about is the senseless killing of foxes.

How anyone in their right mind can think that bringing back the barbaric "sport" of fox hunting is acceptable, is beyond me.

I certainly don't agree with her comment that there will be little objection to it in rural areas.

It is well documented that the vast majority of the general public fiercely oppose its return.

Foxes have as much right to live on this planet as we do and I don't see what gives us the right to decide they are vermin and must be eradicated.

I don't disagree that they kill other animals for food, how else are they supposed to feed themselves and their young?

I'm sure any livestock lost by farmers will be insured. It is not different to us humans; after all we send animals to slaughter to feed ourselves.

It is laughable when these people say that land has to be managed. Mother Nature is quite capable of sorting things out without interference from someone with a shotgun, blasting creatures out of the sky and on the land.

Like Mrs Atkins, I also hope that the government takes a stand but unlike her, I hope it doesn't go back on the fox hunting ban, although I won't hold my breath, because as we all know, the majority of Tories are well known for their love of this "sport".

Regarding her comment about lynch-mob bullying in this country, I think she might find it is called living in a democratic society.

Deborah Atkins states that her husband is a gamekeeper on a large country estate and I quote "spends many hours killing animals".

Presumably so that his employer can then go and shoot what he has protected for pleasure.

She portrays this slaughter as country life, which, and again I quote, "uneducated, squeamish city dwellers" are unable to understand.

She is absolutely right. I do not understand why the hunting fraternity get so much enjoyment out of killing defenceless animals.

Perhaps she could enlighten Aled Jones, myself and millions of others.

I was appalled by Mrs Deborah Atkins scathing letter.

She berated poor Mr Aled Jones, who comes over as a compassionate and caring lover of animals.

She states her husband spends many hours killing animals and she supports him completely. I think they deserve each other. Sooner her than me!
