Letter: Show you care for the health service
The YEP should be thanked for its report on the e-petition “Stop the Health Bill”.
If you have views on this Bill, and everyone should have if they value the NHS, please sign the petition without delay. Those without access to the internet could do it at libraries where help may be given or with assistance from family and friends.
Medical professionals are mostly against this Bill and perhaps GP surgeries should consider providing a service to assist people who wish to sign.
Voting at elections is a public duty but this new method of voting on policies rather than politicians or political parties is perhaps the most revolutionary reform of democracy ever. They are mini referendums.
The Tory plans to disassemble the NHS will do irreparable damage and health will no longer be a national and consistent service. This Bill also opens the door to wholesale privatisation, and, make no mistake, that is the Tories’ real intention.
E-petitions are automatically activated for debate in the House of Commons when they exceed 100,000 and this petition already exceeds this number. But the more people who register, the more politicians will be influenced.
So again may I thank the YEP and urge all caring citizens to sign up and put an end to the Tory plans to create an American-style service in which patients are treated according to their ability to pay and the first examination is of your credit card. Do it for our children, if not for yourself.
Malcolm Naylor, Otley

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 05:46 PMOh I forgot labour are without their millionaires. What exactly has labour done apart from get this country close to sheer bankruptcy. Perhaps there would not of had to be reform if your labour crony friends had not spent every last penny our country had on building schools and hospitals that will be paid for the next 20+ years and three times over. And handing benefits out to all and sundry making the country one of a benefit culture and inviting every race and nationality to set up camp here
