Letter: Raging against the royals

IT was with a degree of shock that I realised, whilst watching a local TV news programme item about the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee, that it is 35 years since the Sex Pistols outraged (part of) the nation with God Save The Queen! A single that has the honour of having made the official Number 1 in Silver Jubilee week itself but which was “blacked out” from all printed chart positions. Some charts actually placed Rod Stewart at Number 1.

One of the highlights of that year for me was seeing the Sex Pistols on Christmas Day at Huddersfield Ivanhoe’s Club – it turned out to be their final UK concert. I wonder if there are any other YEP readers who were at that concert? There is footage of both the afternoon and evening concerts in the film The Filth And The Fury – I feel quite smug about the fact that there is a glimpse of my face in the audience at one point.
