Letter: Our council’s ‘pitiful’ response over ‘art’

Following your article on Thursday headed “Artwork title spells trouble for city gallery”, I felt I should further reinforce my complaint to the city council via your letters column.

To be frank the response from a “spokeswoman” of the council was pitiful and complacent. Whilst it is true to say there was one warning sign at one entrance, there was not at the other entrance.

That in itself shows a complete lack of concern. I thought that as a council we prided ourselves on encouraging young people to visit our galleries and museums. How does that fit with displaying so called art described by an offensive four letter word?

We are, quite rightly, always discussing better ways of safeguarding children and young people.

How does allowing them to be exposed to these sorts of words at a very, very young age fit with that safeguarding agenda. I would suggest that it doesn’t.

I have only one thing to say to the council officers responsible for this – shame on you! And shame on the council for allowing it to happen.

Councillor Andrew Carter

What harm does a word cause a person? Put this against the harm and misery that you and your party are unnecessarily inflicting on the people of this city and country. You are a hypocrite Carter.
