Letter: Memories of a lovely lady
I’ve just been reading in the paper about Rene Johnson.
I also feel very sad owing to her death. I remember her from the Halfway House in the 1970s. I also remember her from she used to have a stall in Bridlington for charity.
In those days I was like the second Bette Lynch, she used to save me lots of rings and she even used to bring them through when she was coming to the Halfway House for me.
Then the next time I saw her was 10 years ago when we had a golden jubilee at Atlanta Street Community Centre. I phoned her up and she came and what an afternoon. People were on zimmer frames and walking sticks and they soon forgot their aches and pains, she had everybody up dancing.
What happy times. What a lovely, lovely lady.
