Letter: Hard times for market traders

DEPLORABLE that Leeds City Council have plans to reduce the Kirkgate market – the heart of the city. One would have thought that, logically, facilities of the market could be enlarged.

Wakefield Council have almost destroyed the wonderful Wakefield market. Put traders out of business, which the councils have no right to do.

I do think that those who have suffered loss of trading should seek legal advice for compensation.

The council have made roughly a million pounds every year from Kirkgate market over the past twenty years. Perhaps we should trust them to carry on doing the same? Stop the out of town developments, that is what is killing the town and city centres, and the parking restrictions too. Free parking is needed in every town and city centre, it works for the White Rose Centre.

The money men of Leeds are desperate to destroy the last vestiges of the peoples market , slowly choking it by high rents, poor advertising and creating a negative atmosphere, all to get hold of this valuable resource .Mark my words they will continue to use the political lobby to gain their goals.Come YEP start an active campaign!!
