I would like to add my own praise for Angus Martin, Adam Gadsby and Dylan Salamon and congratulate them on receiving their police commendations.
The 22-year-olds displayed real bravery when intervening in the street robbery in Headingley, Leeds.
It was the Irish philosopher Edmund Burke that once said: “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”. Whilst these good men acted in an exceptional way to stop on evil act, I found their actions inspiring on a more day-to-day level.
Three weeks ago I was driving around Boston Spa, when I noticed a group of boys in their late teens kicking a football back and forth across the road. I, as a man in my late twenties, could have stopped my car and given the boys a telling off, however, purely out of laziness and not wanting to create a scene, I drove on.
A young mother or elderly man might have felt intimidated by this group of boys yet the actions of these heroic men has inspired me to make sure that in future as a responsible member of the community, I take action against anti-social behavior.
