Letter: Advert in paper saved the life of my husband

My husband and I read an ad in the Yorkshire Evening Post in May about how a prompt check-up can spot cancer symptoms.

We would like to thank you very much as it saved his life.

He had no symptoms whatsoever: no shortness of breath; could go up stairs no bother; and didn’t cough up at all.

He was fine. Then we read the ad and as we were near Seacroft Hospital we walked in for a chest X-ray. We are very glad we did as mine was okay but my husband’s was not.

They found a shadow on his lung so sent him to Jimmy’s for test.

Eventually they confirmed cancer of the bottom half of his left lung, so on the 26th September he went in (on NHS) to the Nuffield Hospital, Leeds, and on the 27th September he had the bottom half of his left lung removed .

He is now doing very well and just to be sure as a protection against a flare up he has now started chemotherapy.

He will have this every three weeks for four months on ward 84 Jimmy’s. So this ad is very important and will save your life.

My husband’s chest has always been clear so we would never have known and by the time we had found out it would have been to late.

We would like to thank all the staff at Nuffield Hospital (on the NHS) and Jimmy’s – they did and are still doing a good job.

Thank you all very much. Your help and friendly advice are very helpful and the brews are good too!

Can you publish this to make people aware as they may not know, or, like my hubby, have no symptoms. Don’t leave it till it is too late. Go now, and don’t leave it till later as later could see you deceased.
