Instruction book for life

IN asking for logical proof of God's existence without recourse to the Bible, John McGuiness asks for what is virtually impossible (YEP, February 26). Thus one can only try to oblige.

One of the most extraordinary discoveries of the 20th century was that DNA stores information which contains detailed instructions for assembling proteins in the form of a four-character digital code.

When the scientists began to decode the human DNA molecule, they found an exquisite "language" composed of some three billion letters all in their proper sequence like in an instruction manual.

Since genetic information is independent of its carrier and can be written in a book, stored in a cd or sent over the internet without loss of quality or content, scientists logically deducted that there must have been a sender of this information.

As the amount of information in DNA is roughly the equivalent of 12 sets of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and such complex miniaturisation is millions of times greater than our present technology, scientists concluded that the sender must be supremely intelligent.

In fact, one of the world's most famous atheists, Professor Antony Flew, now accepts the need for an intelligent source to have been involved in the making of the DNA code.

Unfortunately for some, the commendable scientific principle of "don't believe anything until you see it proved" seems to take the form of "shut your mind to the obvious".
